This guide walks you through setting up candidate sources in JobAdder so that Refari can record where each of your candidates came from. A candidate's source is simply where that candidate originated, for example an application through your Refari job board, a referral, or a registration. With sources in place you can see at a glance how every candidate found their way into your database, which makes your reporting far more useful.
Candidate sources are one of several JobAdder fields you can switch on to get more out of the integration, alongside referral logging and job-alert tracking. For the full list, see Fields you can enable to get the best use out of Refari with JobAdder ↗.
How to set up your Refari candidate sources
You only need to do this once, inside JobAdder's admin settings, and it takes just a few minutes.
Step 1: Open your candidate Source settings
In JobAdder, hover over Account at the bottom of the page, then click Admin.

Click Candidates from the list of options, then click Source.

Step 2: Add your Refari sources
Click the Add another button to create a new source.

Add the following three sources, naming them exactly as shown so Refari can match them:
- Refari Application
- Refari Referral
- Refari Registration

Idea: If you run a separate internal referral job board, add two more sources at the same time, Refari Internal Referral and Refari Internal Application, so candidates from that board are tracked too.Step 3: Save your changes
Click Save Changes to finish.
Success: You are all set. Refari will now record the matching source on every new candidate that enters your JobAdder. Why an existing candidate keeps their original source
Once these sources are set up, every candidate who is new to your JobAdder and comes through Refari is tagged with the matching source. There is one important exception worth knowing about: if a candidate already exists in your JobAdder and already has a source recorded against them, Refari will not change it.
This is how JobAdder itself works, rather than something Refari overrides. In JobAdder, a candidate's source records where that candidate originally came from, not where they most recently applied from. So if someone first entered your system from another source, for example Indeed, that is the value JobAdder keeps. If they later apply for a role through Refari, their source stays as it was, because JobAdder treats it as their point of origin.
In short, the Refari sources you set up above apply to candidates who are new to your JobAdder. For anyone already in your database, their existing source is preserved.
Note: A candidate who is already in your JobAdder with a source (for example Indeed) will keep that source when they later apply through Refari. JobAdder records the source as where the candidate first came from, so it is not overwritten by a newer application. Only candidates who are new to your JobAdder receive a Refari source.Final Notes
Setting up your sources is one part of getting the most from the JobAdder integration. If you also receive candidates by referral, it is worth setting up referral tracking so those candidates are attributed to the right referrer. How candidate referrals work with JobAdder ↗ explains how that works.
